Chatlain Park

New Swings at Chatlain Park - 2021

Nestled along the Turkey Creek Streamway Trail, Chatlain Park is one of Merriam's most active and beautiful parks consisting of 5.25 acres. The park is named after John C. Chatlain, a 40-year Merriam resident who served on the City Council for 32 years.

Chatlain Park opened in July 2000. Before this time, the City of Merriam had relatively little park space. It was a damaging flood in 1998 that sparked interest to grow our park system. The City worked with FEMA and the Core of Engineers to purchase the land to prevent future flood devastations and turned it into Chatlain Park.

In 2021, Chatlain Park became the first park in the world to have a We-Go-Swing. The We-Go-Swing is the first ever all-inclusive swing that allows for people in wheelchairs to remain in their chair while swinging with their friends across from them. Utilizing a rowing motion with their hands, the swing goes into motion for users.
