It may be wet outside, but it’s planting season for those wanting to participate in the Neighborhood Island Grant. Residents have until June 15 to install plants or other landscaping needs if they want to be reimbursed by the City of Merriam.
The Neighborhood Island Grant is a 100% reimbursement grant, up to $500, to purchase preapproved plants and upkeep for one of 20 islands identified by City staff.
“Last year, several residents took advantage of the grant program. So, this year, we increased the reimbursement amount to $500,” acting Public Works Director Jim MacDonald said. “It was really nice to see residents put in the time to beautify one of the most visible areas in their neighborhood.”
All plants must be installed by June 15. Residents will be reimbursed after City staff performs a post-installation inspection and verifies ongoing maintenance through Aug. 31. Find more information at merriam.org/neighborhoodisland.
