The City of
Merriam invites you to make plans for an evening of holiday cheer
and festivities on Saturday, December 1 in Downtown Merriam.
The evening begins at 5:30 PM at the Merriam
Marketplace, 5740 Merriam Drive, with a free candy cane hunt for
children ages 1-7. Children are encouraged to bring a flashlight.
Following the search, enjoy roasting marshmallows while waiting for
the lighting of the holiday tree.
At 6:00 PM, gather at the Merriam Marketplace to watch
the lighting of the Mayors' Christmas Tree. Bring the entire family
for this festive holiday event. Enjoy live holiday music performed
by Shawnee Mission Northwest High School Chamber Choir. Mayor Carl
Wilkes will light the tree, followed by a visit from Santa. Cold
weather won't cancel these events, just add to the atmosphere. Hot
chocolate and a warming fire will be available.
Immediately following the tree lighting, Merriam
residents are invited to a Christmas Buffet Dinner at the Irene B.
French Community Center, hosted by members of the Downtown Merriam
Partnership and area businesses. Seating for the dinner will begin
at 6:30 PM; serving will begin at 7:00 PM. Musical entertainment
will be provided by local musicians, and there will be a visit by
Santa.
Seating is limited for this event and is specified for
Merriam residents only. A limited number of complimentary reserved
seat dinner tickets will be available for distribution at the Irene
B. French Community Center, 5701 Merriam Drive, beginning Thursday,
November 15. There is a limit of four tickets per Merriam household,
please bring proof of Merriam residency to obtain your
tickets.
