Merriam...Just Right!

Discover Great American Traditions
mhp siteNational Tourism Week is fast approaching in May, and to celebrate the industry which contributes significantly to our economy, the Merriam Visitors Bureau will participate in numerous activities throughout the month.

Kicking off the month, Merriam will be the featured host at the travel information centers in Belle Plaine and Goodland, Kansas.  Visitors to the travel centers will have the opportunity to learn about Merriam, plan a trip, schedule group tours and enter to win a great prize.

Following our appearances west and south, we will also spend a day volunteering at the Visitor Information Center located on the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City with the I-35 Tourism Coalition.  Greeting visitors for an afternoon is a great way to show appreciation of their choice to visit our region and to share new attractions and visitor amenities with them.

Third on the list, we will educate our school children about the importance of tourism and share the many careers in this industry that they may one day choose.  By hosting the "Postcards from Merriam" design contest, we will award a prize to one student from the Merriam elementary school third grades for their postcard design capturing the theme, "Discover Great American Traditions."  This student will win a gift card to a local store, have their postcard printed and distributed to visitors stopping by the Merriam Visitors Bureau office, and have their picture taken along with their winning postcard design to be sent to the local media.

Our last promotion kicking off during tourism week is the "Gallons to Go" program.  Aimed at reaching the motor coach market, the program is designed to reward group tour operators for choosing Merriam as an overnight destination during their tours in the region or en-route to another state.  Participating Merriam hotels will offer a $100 gas card for every 25 room nights consumed on new group bookings that start their planning with the Visitors Bureau office from May 1 -- December 31, 2008.  (restrictions included in promotion materials; please inquire).
