Merriam Historic Plaza ~

Merriam Historic Plaza & Visitors Bureau opened in September, 2006 and is located along I-35 at Exit 228B in Merriam.  This site enhances the entrance to Merriam and provides visitors and residents with an outdoor preview of Merriam’s history from pre-settlement to current day. A paved walking path, historic signage, beautiful fountains and custom-designed sculptures are a few of the features at this beautiful site. Merriam Historic Plaza is also home to the Merriam Visitors Bureau and includes meeting space for up to 50 people, available by appointment (fees apply; please inquire).

Historic Signage Stations ~ The Merriam Historic Plaza & Visitors Bureau features 12 outdoor markers depicting the history of Merriam from pre-settlement to current day. Click here to download an overview of each station (PDF file, Adobe Acrobat required).

Advisory Council ~

The Merriam Visitors Bureau is a department of the City of Merriam, in existence since 1995. Administered by a Director, other volunteers in the tourism industry of Merriam serve as “Advisory Council” members to help guide and direct the organization’s program of work, events and activities.

Persons interested in serving as volunteers or joining our advisory council may inquire by calling the Visitors Bureau at 913-403-8999. Individuals or businesses represented on the Advisory Council are governed by the by-laws of the organization and must also serve personally or professionally within the tourism/hospitality industry.
